Online Communities |

Communities, a new free service lets people with common interests get together online to hold ongoing discussions, recommend favorite Web sites, promote group events, create and take polls, collaborate on projects, make announcements and more. Communities are personalized Web pages that are accessible through various sites. Unlike creating a home page or Web site, however, you don't need to know HTML to create Communities. Communities are a quick, free and easy way to share
ideas and information with other people. You can communicate and interact
with customers, colleagues or classmates, give your club, special interest
group, alumni association or other organization a place to meet and interact,
make your homepage interactive or keep in touch with friends and family
online. The term "interactive" is used to describe shared communication between many people. A static (or "non-interactive") home page or Web site presents information in a one way-interaction that doesn't allow people to respond to the information or discuss it with others. Communities, however, allow visitors to exchange ideas and information with one another in a variety of ways, including contributing to ongoing threaded discussions, leaving notes for one another, collaborating on Web pages, sharing favorite bookmarks, and more. These two-way interactions go beyond the capabilities of static homepages and allow the growth of a true Community. Once you create a Community, you can make an existing homepage or Web site interactive by simply adding a link to your Community. |
